Can I save my tooth if I have an abscess?

I think have an abscess and I haven't been able to contact dentist since it is the weekend. I had a deep filling here and it has been fine lately. Until friday i felt a throbbing pain a certain times during the day and saturday the pain was nonstop throbbing. Today when I woke up my lip was swollen and i took some alieve and the swelling went down but now the tooth is severly sensitive to touch and is loose. Is it still possible I can go without extracting this tooth?
