Should I hold on to this 8V head unit?

Eclipse cd8445 is the head unit I paid well for a few years ago. I got it for a few different features but mainly the 8V factor that the audio techs insisted necessary. Heard the newer Eclipse units were not as good (would like to keep whole system eclipse) as the old but some new features like front aux or usb would be cool. Anyway, my question really boils down to-- Is the voltage on the head unit that necessary in case I change it out? Besides the $600 I paid for it, the 8V factor is the only thing making me think I have to stay with this unit. I don't know what the hell any of it means--school me?
