Switching airlines on an international flight?

Hello. I am flying to Atlanta then to Mexico City through Delta airlines. Then I switch airlines and will be flying through AeroMexico from Mexico City to Guadalajara. Do i need to get my luggage in Mexico City and recheck it to avoid having it lost? I have flown many times but rarely switch airlines during a trip. Any advice would be great!
