Question about how to minimize a scar? ?

I was recently in an accident where I fell and hit my head against very rocky ground, and split my head open, warranting a trip to the ER. I'm okay now-no fractures or concussions, but I have a scar over the place where I split my head (partly above the hairline, partly below). I was wondering, does anybody know how to treat the scar so it will go away to minimal visibility? The doctor told me to apply vitamin E oil to it every night, which I am now doing. He also mentioned another medicine (I think it started with an M), which, idiot that I was, I didn't write down and I forgot the name. Does anybody know of any medicines that will help treat the scar? Any other tips or techniques?
