What is your opinion on this book idea?

Alright, I am a 15 year old girl living in Iowa. I am in the tenth grade, and I am writing (or attempting to) my first real creative novel. My plot is not the first kind of book like this, but I really think this is a good idea. Okay, here it is: The story is going to be told in retrospect about a young girl growing up in a small village in the jungle. It will begin when she is around six years old. Her family life is disrupted and the life she is supposed to lead turns out all wrong. She, as the oldest daughter, has to take over the role of mother. Her life continues this way until she reaches puberty (or womanhood in the village). I am thinking about breaking this into a series where book one (childhood) ends when the main character, Tale, reaches the age of twelve-ish. If you have any ideas, please suggest them. I am looking for an opinion from any age group. The audience I was looking for was the preteen and teenage (12-17) age group.
